There are a few things you should remember if you experience car trouble on the side of the road. The first thing to do is attempt to get over to the right-hand shoulder, especially on the highway. If you are on a curve in the road, try to coast until you get away from it, so that passing cars can see you more easily. If your engine dies while on the highway, make sure you do not get out of the car! Remain inside your car until roadside recovery assistance arrives on the scene. If it is after dark, turn on the inside light to make you more visible.
After you have placed your car in a safe position, it is time to call roadside recovery. If you are in the middle of the highway, remain in your car. If you are safely on the shoulder or side of the road, you can stand to the side of your car that is not facing traffic. Do not attempt to fix your car if the problem is on the same side of the road as the traffic. Wait until roadside recovery assistance arrives and let the trained professionals deal with your car issues. Remember to put your safety over all other concerns.
